There has been a rise in “spoofing” scams targeting local financial institutions. Empower members are reporting suspicious phone calls from individuals posing as “Empower Credit Union fraud department” representatives. Caller ID will show our name and our real phone number: 414-988-6600. Real Empower representatives will never ask for your Social Security Number, your PIN, or a code sent by text message or email.
If in doubt, hang up and call the credit union or call the number on the back of your card. You can also turn your debit card on or off using online banking or our mobile app. In online banking you can find the option under “Settings.” In the mobile app you can find the option under “Card Controls.” You can turn your debit card off or on any time without needing to replace the card. We will only replace your card if we determine that it has been compromised. Turning the card off will prevent a scammer from using your card number while we investigate.
